GEORGE HADOW & DIRK SERRIES – OUTERMISSION (CD, Raw Tonk Records)
Known for his highly prolific career as an ambient, drone, and industrial composer, Belgian guitarist Dirk Serries is making bold moves into the world of avant garde and improvised music. In this quest, Serries has been teaming up, both live and on record, with some of the leading young figures on the European scene, including John Dikeman, Colin Webster, Andrew Lisle, and Graham Dunning. 2016 saw the release of Serries’s debut solo album of purely improvised material, ‘Etched Above The Bow Grip’ (Raw Tonk Records). This release was heralded as an exciting statement of intent, and a document of his on-going search as a musician. This search led to the Amsterdam-based British drummer George Hadow. Working primarily in the fields of improvised music and jazz, Hadow is quickly establishing himself on the Dutch scene. Recent collaborations include The Ex, Blue Lines, Goncalo Almeida, and John Dikeman.
On their debut album ‘Outermission’, Hadow and Serries find their common language is one of dynamics, stop and go, exchange of abstractness and detailed tonality. A duo on the edge of its powers both musically and physically. Now available as pre-order (comes with an instant download of the full album) at Raw Tonk Records’ bandcamp.
